Eat at any restaurant in Mozambique and you’ll be offered the somewhat ubiquitous piri piri sauce. It is said to be the ultimate blend of Afro-Portuguese mix.
It consists of oil, cayenne peppers and freshly minced chili at its base, but other ingredients can consist of lemons, limes, vinegar, wine or liquor.
It is delicious if really powerful at times, and ideal for adding a kick to more bland dishes. Some are so hot however that inspires one to keep toilet rolls in a fridge/freezer.
