Antisemitism in Football

A recent documentary by David and Ivor Baddiel looks at antisemitism in the Beautiful Game. It is entitled "The Y Word" and focuses on Tottenham Hotspur, a successful North London football club whose supporters label themselves and regularly chant “Yiddos” – although only some 5% of their following are of Jewish extraction.

The film-makers condemn this for it often leads to a negative response from Spurs’ rivals, most notably Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal.

The problem is not limited to London however – it is very much an international problem - most notably in Poland and Ukraine. It was recently highlighted in the BBC’s World Football programme. You can check it out the podcast yourself by clicking here.

  1. Football fans are fairly well known for racism-- not Britain's most intelligent people.

  2. this is a generalisation. I am a football supporter and have an IQ of 139! The problem is global and not just limited to Britain.
