China Bans You Tube

This is the video released by the Tibetan Government in exile that has forced China to close down the You tube site. Lost Johnny sent me a copy of it yesterday and China seems to have blocked the site within 12 hours. It was shown today on BBC World.

A government spokesman claims it was a PR job played by actors. Try telling that to my new Tibetan student who was beaten and arrested for eight months.

This blog so far seems to have remained accessible in China. Good on them!

  1. Your blog is in English, so you should be OK.

The HK Chinese papers had the story on the front page, but weirdly the English papers seem to have self-censored it.

You might be surprised how little the average Chinese person knows about Tibet. Many Americans believe they went to 'liberate' Iraq (same colonial rhetoric), so what can an ordinary Chinese person know about Tibet with the media so tightly controlled?

  2. All the Chinese history books in the last 50 years "shows" that Tibet is part of China. Indeed the state-run media wages a propoganda war.No wonder the Chinese people believe the government lies.
