Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
Now I´m not really into holding wild animals in zoos, Last summer I took J. and her two and half year old son to London zoo, excited as they were offering an Gorilla Kingdom experience. Little Isak wasn´t the only one totally freaked to witness one of the Mountain gorillas stuck in a perspex tube between cage and open enclosure.
However the care and attention given by the keepers of Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is legendary. The facilities are excellent, the park well-managed by rangers and they have set up numerous projects. These include the birth of 40 snow leopards, 47 red pandas and the only park to have successfully bred Tibetan wolves.
The park boasts 22 mammal species including Himalayan Black bear, clouded and common leopard, Siberian tigers and a wide variety of deaer. There are also 7 species of bird and 2 ponds of the extremely rare Himalayan newt.
Entrance is Rs20/100 for locals/foreigners and is open Friday – Wednesday 8.30am – 4.30pm
