An Eye and a Lens - The Horus Temple at Edfu

The beautiful Temple of Edfu is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. Check out these pics, enjoy but respect their copyright please.

This temple dedicated to Horus (the falcon headed son of Osiris) is the most completely preserved Ptolemaic temple in Egypt and took over 200 years to complete.

Written in 1280BC, the Egyptian Book of the Dead provides some interesting parallels between Horus and Jesus. Horus was born to a virgin, babtised in a river by Anup the babtiser (who was later beheaded), performed miracles including healing the sick, curing the blind and walking on water. He also had 12 disciples, was crucified to death and resurrected three days later. Draw your own conclusions – it’s not difficult.

An eagle-eyed ticket seller spots my Student card is out of date and charges me the full E£50 entrance fee.
