David is a committed Zionist. He lives in the satellite city north of Tel Aviv called Ra’nana. It is one of the safest cities in Israel. Crime is very low and he takes pride in the integration of Arabs in the area. He points this out as we check out a few diners in the myriad shopping malls where Jews and Arabs rub shoulders together with no hostility or animosity.
However, there has been a recent problem with Jews against Jews. In the last few months both the Liberal and Reform synagogues have had their windows smashed. This is believed to be attacks by members of the ultra orthodox community.
I find this almost incomprehensible. With such a lack of mutual understanding and respect amongst the Jewish community is there any wonder that there are problems between Israelis and Arabs?
