The Sudden Demise of Michael Jackson

I awoke in a sweat at about 2.30am this morning. So wide-awake do I feel, unusually I get up and turn on both my lap-top and BBC World. They just announce the breaking news of the death of Michael Jackson. Hardly believing my ears, within two minutes my browser opens on Facebook and it is already confirming the story.

Described on BBC World, (probably accurately), as the most famous face in the world, the King of Pop´s sudden demise today has shocked India, not so much his music, but for his dancing talents. No dancer in the world has had such an affect on the development of Bollywood, and a wide variety of local actors and choreographers have being paying tribute throughout the day. Jackson performed here back in 1996 and was being lobbied to play here again in the somewhat ironic “comeback” tour.

His single and album sales world-wide were second to none, over a quarter of a billion albums sold worldwide. A truly remarkable feat in such a competitive market.

Clearly, having being paraded in the public forum of TV from the age of six, he was already a deeply disturbed artist from a bizarre family circus. Horrendous accusations in his personal life were never going to help the situation. A lonely and haunted individual.

In tribute to “The Weird One” and if any good can come from his passing, let it be the end of pop and disco music. These genres should be retired from immediate effect.
