Can You Help?

I went to the local church/school where all our 38 students will attend on Monday. Jean – Luc and I wanted to take some photos for Diakonos International so they could see the available facilities. A few of our kids are already there attending a service there yesterday evening.

The pastor is a really nice and helpful guy, and despite being Pastor, main keyboard player and a service in session, he provides JL and myself with an ice cold malt drink to help us cool off. The disruption of a White Man touting his whopper of a camera is too much for some of the children who go somewhat wild, and despite my best efforts of “silence” my mere presence is just too much!

One of the congregation kids shows no fear at all and comes over to dance with me. I can´t resist taking his photo and he is quite animated by the whole process, not least the play-back mode. He quickly works out how to use the camera and is completely engrossed by his own image. The battery is running low, but he is completely transfixed.

JL gets talking to his mother. She is a 22 year old student who lost both her husband and her house in the earthquake. She has been living in the church with her mother, sister and 2 month old baby daughter ever since. With school starting on Monday she has no clue what to do.

JL passes his card out and she turns up today with Reuben (for that is his name) and baby in tow - clearly this woman´s options are very limited. She urgently needs both money and shelter to survive the harshness of Port au Prince. One option would be for Reuben to come and stay here in the orphanage, but I am loath to see the family torn apart.

We are thus looking for a sponsor for Reuben – someone that could spare a few dollars each month to help this woman out. Reuben is clearly a highly intelligent 2 year old boy, full of curiosity, inquisitiveness and love. Given a half-decent education, he will undoubtedly go far.

Reuben - bright, intelligent, curious and loving

If you would be interested in helping Reuben and his family, please contact me urgently and i can ensure that a fund is set up to help them out via JL. Unfortunately not having worked for a while i am not in a financial position to offer much, but maybe you are gentle reader. Please help if you can. Love on ya!
